Inauguration of the Pioneering Spirit

About the project

Allseas is a trendsetting offshore construction company which specialises in pipeline installation on the seabed. To perform this work, the company has four pipelay vessels and a number of support vessels.

In early 2015, the ‘Pioneering Spirit’, Allseas’ new vessel for platform installation, platform removal and pipeline installation, went into service.

The inauguration of the Pioneering Spirit vessel took place on Friday the 27th of February, Saturday the 28th of February and Sunday the 1st of March. A high-end three-day event was arranged at the Alexia harbour, Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam, which was visited by around 4,000 of Allseas’ customers, employees and suppliers.

Commissioned by Allseas and in collaboration with ‘Hendrix Regie en Showproducties’, the Production World team started with pre-production a long time before these dates. To give an idea of the size of this project:

·        76 days of assembly and disassembly

·        10,000 m2 of stalls

·        600 production crew members, who jointly worked 55,000 hours

·        600 containers of equipment

·        375 tonnes of steel, 1,800 m2 of concrete and 25 kilometres of cabling

·        5.2 million litres of sea water, used as ballast for the pontoons

·        2.5 million volts of electricity – enough to supply 625 households with power

·        200,000 litres of drinking water for sanitary and other facilities.

Production World was responsible for the entire design, scheduling, logistics, public utilities, security (including all security plans), for consulting with services, dealing with general and technical services, accreditation, crew catering and accommodation.

A large-scale project at a particularly challenging location involving 4 interconnected North Sea pontoons, 185 x 54 metres in total, at sea during the stormiest months of the year, which resulted in the Inauguration of the Pioneering Spirit being a tantalizing challenge.
